Hyundai i20 powertrains: common questions

How many powertrains is the Hyundai i20 sold with?
2: Petrol manual, Petrol IVT. The cheapest way into the range is the Era 1.2 Petrol MT at ₹5,99,700 ex-showroom, and the dearest entry point is the Sportz 1.2 Petrol IVT at ₹8,86,200.
On the Hyundai i20, does changing powertrain change the equipment?
Yes on the Sportz. Going from the Sportz 1.2 Petrol MT to the Sportz 1.2 Petrol IVT adds Multiple Drive Modes, which we value at ₹5,950 against a price gap of ₹1,01,000.
What mileage does each Hyundai i20 powertrain claim?
Petrol manual: 20.35 kmpl; Petrol IVT: 19.65 kmpl. These are the manufacturer's certified figures, not our own, and CNG is certified per kilogram rather than per litre — the two numbers are not comparable directly.

What this car's data leaves out

Left out: the Knight editions, the dual-tone versions and the turbo N Line.

Data notes — where these figures come from

1.2 Kappa petrol manual on all seven trims from Era to Asta(O), including Magna Executive, and the IVT on Sportz, Sportz(O) and Asta(O) — Hyundai's engine-and-trim plan offers no plain Asta IVT outside a dual-tone paint version. The IVT is not merely a gearbox here: Hyundai rates the same engine 5 PS higher with it. Hyundai's equipment table marks a dashcam, wireless phone mirroring and Normal/Sport drive modes as 'iVT only' on some trims, and our registry prices none of them, so the IVT variants inherit their trim's equipment unchanged. Rebuilding from the May 2026 table credited equipment the earlier data had missed: rear power windows from Magna Executive, the Bose seven-speaker system from Sportz(O), and ambient lighting on Asta and Asta(O). The 'Z shaped' LED tail lamps are joined by a chrome garnish rather than a light bar, so they are not credited as connected. Hyundai publishes no certified efficiency for the IVT in this brochure, so those variants store none. The Knight editions, the dual-tone versions and the turbo N Line are not modelled. Re-read against Hyundai's i20 brochure on 18 Sept 2026: Sportz and Sportz(O) sit on R15 full wheel covers in dual tone, which the earlier data left blank, so the Magna-to-Sportz step wrongly reported losing its wheel covers. The sunroof really is a Magna feature and really is absent from the Sportz above it — Hyundai's own equipment table marks the smart electric sunroof on Magna, Sportz(O) and Asta but not on Sportz.
