MG Majestor on-road price in Chennai and across Tamil Nadu
These are the figures for every city in Tamil Nadu. Road tax is set by the state, not the city, so the Savvy 4x2 2.0 Twin Turbo Diesel AT costs the same ₹54,90,668 to put on the road in Chennai as it does in Coimbatore. The only thing that moves between showrooms is the dealer handling charge, which is not a published figure — so it is not in any total on this page.

What Tamil Nadu charges
Tamil Nadu bands the rate by ex-showroom price, from 12% to 20%. The Savvy 4x2 2.0 Twin Turbo Diesel AT pays ₹8,69,800 of road tax on its ₹43,49,000 ex-showroom price, plus ₹7,828 of cess — the ₹8,77,628 the table shows. That cess is 0.18% of ex-showroom, and we bill it because it appears at exactly that rate on every invoice we checked, in all 36 states and union territories. We have not found the notification that sets it, so we describe it rather than name it.
| Ex-showroom band | Petrol | Diesel | CNG |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to ₹5,00,000 | 12% | 13% | 12% |
| ₹5,00,000 – ₹10,00,000 | 13% | 13% | 13% |
| ₹10,00,000 – ₹20,00,000 | 18% | 18% | 18% |
| Above ₹20,00,000 | 20% | 20% | 18% |
Tamil Nadu taxes diesel up to 1 percentage point higher than petrol, so the same trim costs more to register on that fuel here than the ex-showroom gap suggests.
