Fuel only. It does not price servicing, insurance, tyres or what the Toyota Fortuner is worth when you sell it — a diesel usually costs more to maintain, and we publish no figure for that rather than estimate one. 3 of these variants have no certified efficiency, so type your own to see a cost.

Toyota Fortuner powertrains: common questions
- How many powertrains is the Toyota Fortuner sold with?
- 5: Petrol automatic, Diesel manual, Diesel automatic, Diesel manual 4WD, Diesel automatic 4WD. The cheapest way into the range is the 4x2 2.7 Petrol AT at ₹35,11,000 ex-showroom, and the dearest entry point is the neoDrive 4x4 2.8 Diesel AT at ₹43,55,000.
- On the Toyota Fortuner, does changing powertrain change the equipment?
- Not on the 4x2, which is sold as both the 4x2 2.7 Petrol AT and the 4x2 2.8 Diesel MT with identical equipment. The ₹64,000 between them buys the powertrain and nothing else.
What this car's data leaves out
Seven versions: the 4x2 petrol automatic, the 2.8 diesel as 4x2 manual, 4x2 automatic and 4x4 manual, the neoDrive 4x4 automatic, and the Legender as a 4x2 automatic and 4x4 manual. Left out: the Legender neoDrive 4x4 automatic and the GR-S, which no current Toyota document covers; the Leader Edition, an appearance edition; and the petrol manual, which Toyota lists but does not price. Toyota publishes no certified efficiency figure for this car, so none is shown.
Data notes — where these figures come from
LADDERS: Toyota sells the Fortuner as one trim per powertrain, so most versions sit alone. The two comparisons that exist are the Legender against the Fortuner it is built on - 4x2 diesel automatic, and 4x4 diesel manual. Drivetrain is `4wd` on the three 4x4s. LEFT OUT, and why: - Legender neoDrive 4x4 AT (Rs 48,29,000). Toyota's Legender spec sheet predates neoDrive and its live page never mentions it, so there is no Toyota word on its equipment - and the Fortuner brochure shows neoDrive changes the kit (it drops ventilated seats, below). Toyota's own brochure marks the 360 camera, wireless charger, dashcam and TPMS '##' - dealer-fitted accessories, 'not part of standard fitment' - so none of them is credited. - GR-S 4x4 AT (Rs 50,46,000). Its only Toyota document is a June 2023 highlights brochure that names no seat adjustment, ventilation, armrest or glovebox. Built from it, the GR-S would 'drop' half the Fortuner's kit on the page, and those would be gaps in the document, not in the car. - Leader Edition (from Rs 34,79,000): a styling edition, the dual-tone/Knight rule. - Petrol manual: Toyota's matrix heads the column 'Petrol [MT / AT]' and specifies a 5MT, but no price list carries one. neoDRIVE drops ventilated seats. Toyota's own matrix merges 'Ventilated Front Seats with perforation' across the Petrol and Diesel columns and prints '-' under Diesel-neoDrive, and the dearer neoDrive is credited without them. It is stored as diesel (a 48V mild hybrid, the Hyryder Neodrive's disposition), with Toyota's 500 Nm automatic torque. It gains MTS (Mud/Sand/Rock/Dirt/Deep Snow) beside the Eco/Normal/Sport modes and earns the drive-and-terrain-modes entry; the others hold drive modes only (the petrol has Eco/Power). LEGENDER over the Fortuner, per Toyota: 18-inch machine-cut alloys on the 4x2 too, ambient illumination on the instrument garnish, front door trims and footwells, and a wireless charger. The charger and the kick-sensor tailgate are footnoted '***' in Toyota's sheet and the footnote is never defined; the Legender launched as an automatic and its page lists the charger as standard, so it is credited on the 4x2 automatic and NOT on the 4x4 manual, which Toyota added later. Under-credit if the footnote means something else. JBL (11 speakers with subwoofer and amplifier) is '4WD only' in both documents; the 4x2s have six speakers. Downhill assist control is 4WD only. 17-inch alloys on the 4x2 Fortuners, 18-inch on every 4x4. Paddle shifters are credited on the diesel automatics only: the shared 6AT cell mentions them, but Toyota's page and brochure both footnote 'Power Steering with VFC & Paddleshifts - only available on diesel variants'. NOT CREDITED: the 360-degree camera and wireless charger on the neoDrive Fortuner (dealer accessories, above); the reversing camera, as 'Back Monitor' with no stated guidelines (the Bolero Neo call); automatic headlamps, because the Fortuner sheet says 'Dusk Sensing' and the Legender's does not, and crediting one would print a drop that is a gap in a document; the instrument 'Large TFT MID', which is unsized; and roof rails, rain-sensing wipers, a rear defogger/wiper, a rear centre armrest, a leather steering wheel and a height-adjustable seat, none of which either document lists. 'Power Adjust Driver and Front Passenger Seats' does not say how many ways, so the driver's seat sits at the 4-way rung and the passenger's earns the powered co-driver entry. 'Leather Seats' are genuine-and-synthetic by Toyota's footnote and earn the leatherette entry.
