Maruti Baleno: which powertrain?
The Maruti Baleno is sold as 4 separate ranges. Pick a trim and this shows what each powertrain costs at that trim, and whether the gearbox brings any equipment with it.

Maruti Baleno powertrains: common questions
- How many powertrains is the Maruti Baleno sold with?
- 4: Petrol manual, Petrol AMT, CNG manual, CNG AMT. The cheapest way into the range is the Sigma 1.2 Petrol MT at ₹5,98,900 ex-showroom, and the dearest entry point is the Delta 1.2 CNG AMT at ₹8,32,400.
- On the Maruti Baleno, does changing powertrain change the equipment?
- Not on the Delta, which is sold as both the Delta 1.2 Petrol MT and the Delta 1.2 Petrol AMT with identical equipment. The ₹50,000 between them buys the powertrain and nothing else.
- What mileage does each Maruti Baleno powertrain claim?
- Petrol manual: 23.8 kmpl; Petrol AMT: 24.77 kmpl; CNG manual: 33.61 km/kg; CNG AMT: 34.47 km/kg. These are the manufacturer's certified figures, not our own, and CNG is certified per kilogram rather than per litre — the two numbers are not comparable directly.
- Does CarMaths say when the Maruti Baleno's CNG pays for itself?
- Not yet. That answer needs a CNG price we can stand behind in your city, and the CNG figures available to us fail their own consistency check — they swing by twelve rupees between two cities in one state, and in one city they read above petrol. This page gives the price gap and the certified efficiency and leaves the division to you, rather than printing a payback distance that would be wrong.
We do not tell you when CNG pays for itself
The useful answer is a distance — drive this far and the cheaper fuel has repaid the premium. For diesel against petrol we do work it out, in the panel above: it holds this state's pump prices, and where we have a certified efficiency for both sides of the same trim it gives you the premium, the yearly saving and the kilometres at which one repays the other. Change any figure to your own.
CNG is the one we withhold, and it is a sourcing problem rather than an arithmetic one: the CNG prices we could find do not survive their own consistency check — they swing by twelve rupees between two cities in one state, and in one city they read above petrol. A payback distance built on those would be a wrong answer rather than a missing one.
Where a row above reads “—”, the manufacturer publishes no certified efficiency for that powertrain and we store none rather than borrow another's. Type the figure you actually get and the arithmetic follows it.
Everything on this page is the same arithmetic used everywhere else on this site: equipment priced in rupees, against the price difference. What it cannot price is the powertrain itself — a gearbox, a fuel system, running cost, resale or refuelling convenience.
What this car's data leaves out
Nothing is left out beyond the dual-tone and appearance editions this site excludes everywhere.
Data notes — where these figures come from
1.2 petrol manual, petrol AMT and S-CNG ladders. Equipment for each AMT and CNG variant is inherited from its petrol-manual trim: Maruti's own features list gives a trim's manual and automatic forms the same equipment, and the only rows that differ between them are gearbox-intrinsic — hill hold and a gear-position indicator on the automatic, a gear-shift indicator on the manual. Our registry folds hill hold into the combined 'ESC, VSM & Hill Start Assist' feature, which the manual already earns for ESC alone, and prices none of the indicators, so no boolean changes. The CNG is offered on Delta and Zeta only and drops idle start-stop and boot space to the cylinder; neither is in our registry. CNG efficiency is certified in km/kg and is not comparable to the petrol kmpl figure. Maruti's Baleno brochure lists no day/night mirror, rear armrest or roof rails, so none is credited even where the car may have them. The CNG automatics (Delta and Zeta CNG AGS, added 22 Sept 2026) inherit their CNG manual trim's equipment, which is the same rule the petrol AMTs follow and which Maruti's own features list states by sharing one column across a trim's manual and automatic forms. Maruti's current brochure lists the S-CNG as 5MT only and gives one CNG efficiency figure, while NEXA's price pages list both CNG automatics at 34.47 km/kg — the website is the newer source and is what these two variants are built from. REVERSING CAMERA (re-read 29 Oct 2026): the maker describes the camera without saying its guidelines move with the steering, so the camera entry (moving guidelines) is not credited. LEVEL 2 ADAS (re-read 29 Oct 2026): Maruti's brochure (The-Stunning-New-Baleno-Brochure.pdf, Sept 2026) lists 'ADAS LEVEL 2+' (adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and advanced emergency braking, from a monocular camera and millimetre-wave radar) in the 'Alpha (O) MT/AMT' column, so both gearboxes of the Alpha (O) are credited.
