Tata Aeris: which powertrain?

The Tata Aeris is sold as 4 separate ranges. Pick a trim and this shows what each powertrain costs at that trim, and whether the gearbox brings any equipment with it.

Trim by trim

Each block is one trim level. The cheapest powertrain at that trim is the baseline; every other is shown as what it costs over it.

Tata Aeris powertrains: common questions

How many powertrains is the Tata Aeris sold with?
4: Petrol manual, CNG manual, Petrol AMT, CNG AMT. The cheapest way into the range is the Smart 1.2 Petrol MT at ₹5,29,990 ex-showroom, and the dearest entry point is the Pure 1.2 CNG AMT at ₹7,69,990.
On the Tata Aeris, does changing powertrain change the equipment?
Not on the Smart, which is sold as both the Smart 1.2 Petrol MT and the Smart 1.2 CNG MT with identical equipment. The ₹1,00,000 between them buys the powertrain and nothing else.
Does CarMaths say when the Tata Aeris's CNG pays for itself?
Not yet. That answer needs a CNG price we can stand behind in your city, and the CNG figures available to us fail their own consistency check — they swing by twelve rupees between two cities in one state, and in one city they read above petrol. This page gives the price gap and the certified efficiency and leaves the division to you, rather than printing a payback distance that would be wrong.
About CNG running cost

We do not tell you when CNG pays for itself

The useful answer is a distance — drive this far and the cheaper fuel has repaid the premium. For diesel against petrol we do work it out, in the panel above: it holds this state's pump prices, and where we have a certified efficiency for both sides of the same trim it gives you the premium, the yearly saving and the kilometres at which one repays the other. Change any figure to your own.

CNG is the one we withhold, and it is a sourcing problem rather than an arithmetic one: the CNG prices we could find do not survive their own consistency check — they swing by twelve rupees between two cities in one state, and in one city they read above petrol. A payback distance built on those would be a wrong answer rather than a missing one.

Where a row above reads “—”, the manufacturer publishes no certified efficiency for that powertrain and we store none rather than borrow another's. Type the figure you actually get and the arithmetic follows it.

Everything on this page is the same arithmetic used everywhere else on this site: equipment priced in rupees, against the price difference. What it cannot price is the powertrain itself — a gearbox, a fuel system, running cost, resale or refuelling convenience.

What this car's data leaves out

Every variant Tata prices. No exclusions.

Data notes — where these figures come from

1.2 Revotron petrol and iCNG, each in manual and AMT, across all five personas - Smart, Pure, Pure+, Creative and Accomplished. Smart is not offered with the AMT on either fuel, so the range is 18 rather than 20. Tata's grid carries no paint or appearance editions for this car, so nothing is excluded. Three brochure footnotes are applied rather than the headline walk: cruise control is not available on the CNG AMT, so it is not credited there; the R15 Diamond Aero alloy wheel is petrol-only on Creative and Accomplished, so the CNG versions of those trims stay on the wheel-cover rung, because the R14 Dynamic Hyperstyle wheel they get instead is not described as an alloy; and the iTPMS on Pure+ upward is an indirect system, so tpms_highline is not credited, as on every other Tata here. The 12.7cm Digital Island Cluster is below the 7-inch rung and earns nothing. The Halo Lightbar connected tail lamp is credited from Smart, so Creative's Infinity LED upgrade adds nothing further - the registry has one connected-taillamp tier, not two. The Aeris replaces the Tigor: tata.cars/tigor now redirects to this car's page. PADDLE SHIFTERS (9 Oct 2026): credited on all eight AMT variants, petrol and CNG. Tata's October 2026 brochure (aeris-brochure.pdf) presents 'Quick response paddle shifters' with no trim or fuel qualifier, though its grade walk does not list them under any trim; EFFICIENCY (11 Oct 2026): none stored. 29 Oct 2026, Tata's October 2026 brochure (p.27 grade walk, p.24/26): Smart, Pure and Pure+ carry the 'Halo Lightbar' tail lamps; the lit 'Infinity LED Connected Tail Lamps' arrive at Creative. The Halo lightbar is not credited as connected tail lamps (the registry needs a lit bar).
