Tata Tiago: which powertrain?
The Tata Tiago is sold as 4 separate ranges. Pick a trim and this shows what each powertrain costs at that trim, and whether the gearbox brings any equipment with it.

Tata Tiago powertrains: common questions
- How many powertrains is the Tata Tiago sold with?
- 4: Petrol manual, CNG manual, Petrol AMT, CNG AMT. The cheapest way into the range is the Smart 1.2 Petrol MT at ₹4,76,990 ex-showroom, and the dearest entry point is the Pure 1.2 CNG AMT at ₹7,12,990.
- On the Tata Tiago, does changing powertrain change the equipment?
- Not on the Smart, which is sold as both the Smart 1.2 Petrol MT and the Smart 1.2 CNG MT with identical equipment. The ₹1,10,000 between them buys the powertrain and nothing else.
- Does CarMaths say when the Tata Tiago's CNG pays for itself?
- Not yet. That answer needs a CNG price we can stand behind in your city, and the CNG figures available to us fail their own consistency check — they swing by twelve rupees between two cities in one state, and in one city they read above petrol. This page gives the price gap and the certified efficiency and leaves the division to you, rather than printing a payback distance that would be wrong.
We do not tell you when CNG pays for itself
The useful answer is a distance — drive this far and the cheaper fuel has repaid the premium. For diesel against petrol we do work it out, in the panel above: it holds this state's pump prices, and where we have a certified efficiency for both sides of the same trim it gives you the premium, the yearly saving and the kilometres at which one repays the other. Change any figure to your own.
CNG is the one we withhold, and it is a sourcing problem rather than an arithmetic one: the CNG prices we could find do not survive their own consistency check — they swing by twelve rupees between two cities in one state, and in one city they read above petrol. A payback distance built on those would be a wrong answer rather than a missing one.
Where a row above reads “—”, the manufacturer publishes no certified efficiency for that powertrain and we store none rather than borrow another's. Type the figure you actually get and the arithmetic follows it.
Everything on this page is the same arithmetic used everywhere else on this site: equipment priced in rupees, against the price difference. What it cannot price is the powertrain itself — a gearbox, a fuel system, running cost, resale or refuelling convenience.
What this car's data leaves out
Covers all six trims on petrol and CNG, in manual and AMT.
Data notes — where these figures come from
Prices come from Tata's own published price list since 12 Oct 2026 (Delhi). It settles the figure that held this car out of the catalogue between 16 Sept and 6 Oct: the Rs 7,05,990 is real, and it is the Creative MANUAL; the Creative AMT is Rs 7,60,990. With Tata's figures the petrol manual walk runs in price order as the brochure states it — Creative (Rs 7,05,990) then Creative+ (Rs 7,35,990), 'in addition to Creative' — so the inversion this note used to record is gone. NOT CREDITED, each because the brochure says something narrower than the registry entry: the Tiago's TPMS is 'iTPMS', which is indirect rather than the direct sensors our entry specifies; 'Tilt Steering' is not the tilt-and-telescopic column we price; 'R14 Hyperstyle Wheels' on Pure+ A is not described as an alloy, so the wheel-cover rung is kept; and the Digital Island Cluster carries no stated size, so no cluster rung is credited. POWERTRAIN QUALIFICATIONS, all from the brochure's own footnotes: paddle shifters are 'AMT only'; cruise control is 'not available in CNG variants'; and the R15 diamond-cut alloys are 'Petrol only', so the CNG Creative keeps the lower wheel rung. BLIND SPOT (12 Oct 2026): the 'Blind View Monitor' Tata lists under Creative ('In addition to Pure+ A', with the 360 camera, inherited by Creative+) now earns blind_spot_monitor, whose entry includes 'a camera view of the lane you are pulling into' — the City and Elevate reading. It had been left uncredited as 'a camera feed', which the entry's own wording covers. REVERSING CAMERA (re-read 29 Oct 2026): Tata's manuals give steering-linked guides only with the 360 camera on Creative and Creative+, so Pure+ and Pure+ A are not credited the camera entry (moving guidelines). 29 Oct 2026, Tata's May 2026 brochure (p.28 walk, p.4 and p.21 photos): the 'Halo Lightbar Connected Tail lamps' from Pure+ A are the best tail lamps any Tiago gets, and Tata's own photographs show the centre bar unlit, so no Tiago is credited connected tail lamps.
