What it costs to run

Fuel only — change any figure to your own

Prices are Delhi's, read 2026-11-04. Fuel duty is set per state, so they are the state's figure rather than Delhi's.

Variantkm/lFuel, a year
Smart+ 1.2 Turbo MT· no certified figure—
Smart+ 1.2 Turbo AMT· no certified figure—
Smart+ 1.5 Diesel MT· no certified figure—

Fuel only. It does not price servicing, insurance, tyres or what the Tata Nexon is worth when you sell it — a diesel usually costs more to maintain, and we publish no figure for that rather than estimate one. 3 of these variants have no certified efficiency, so type your own to see a cost.

Across every car we track

Trim by trim

Each block is one trim level. The cheapest powertrain at that trim is the baseline; every other is shown as what it costs over it.

Tata Nexon powertrains: common questions

How many powertrains is the Tata Nexon sold with?
6: Petrol manual, CNG manual, Petrol AMT, Diesel manual, Diesel AMT, Petrol DCA. The cheapest way into the range is the Smart 1.2 Turbo MT at ₹7,39,990 ex-showroom, and the dearest entry point is the Creative 1.2 Turbo DCA at ₹11,41,990.
On the Tata Nexon, does changing powertrain change the equipment?
Yes on the Smart. Going from the Smart 1.2 Turbo MT to the Smart 1.2 Turbo CNG MT adds nothing and drops Multiple Drive Modes, which we value at ₹6,440 against a price gap of ₹95,000.
Does CarMaths say when the Tata Nexon's CNG pays for itself?
Not yet. That answer needs a CNG price we can stand behind in your city, and the CNG figures available to us fail their own consistency check — they swing by twelve rupees between two cities in one state, and in one city they read above petrol. This page gives the price gap and the certified efficiency and leaves the division to you, rather than printing a payback distance that would be wrong.
About CNG running cost

We do not tell you when CNG pays for itself

The useful answer is a distance — drive this far and the cheaper fuel has repaid the premium. For diesel against petrol we do work it out, in the panel above: it holds this state's pump prices, and where we have a certified efficiency for both sides of the same trim it gives you the premium, the yearly saving and the kilometres at which one repays the other. Change any figure to your own.

CNG is the one we withhold, and it is a sourcing problem rather than an arithmetic one: the CNG prices we could find do not survive their own consistency check — they swing by twelve rupees between two cities in one state, and in one city they read above petrol. A payback distance built on those would be a wrong answer rather than a missing one.

Where a row above reads “—”, the manufacturer publishes no certified efficiency for that powertrain and we store none rather than borrow another's. Type the figure you actually get and the arithmetic follows it.

Everything on this page is the same arithmetic used everywhere else on this site: equipment priced in rupees, against the price difference. What it cannot price is the powertrain itself — a gearbox, a fuel system, running cost, resale or refuelling convenience.

What this car's data leaves out

Left out: the Camo, Dark and Red Dark appearance editions, which are paint and trim packages.

Data notes — where these figures come from

1.2 turbo-petrol manual, AMT and seven-speed DCA; 1.2 iCNG manual; and 1.5 diesel manual and AMT — every trim Tata sells, including the S (electric sunroof) and PS (panoramic sunroof) versions. Equipment follows Tata's persona walk, which lists each trim as additions over the one below, with the exceptions its footnotes make: paddle shifters are 'available in AMT / DCA' and so are credited to every automatic; cruise control, multi-drive modes and the subwoofer are 'not available in CNG'; and ADAS, the JBL speaker system and the rear sunshade are 'only available in Fearless + PS DCA', which is the Fearless+ A PS here. Rebuilding from the May 2026 brochure corrected three things we had carried: rear AC vents arrive at Pure+ rather than Smart, and the electric mirrors and steering-wheel controls at Smart+ rather than Pure+. The Nexon's Eco/City/Sports drive modes are not credited: our registry's feature is drive modes together with terrain traction modes (sand, mud, snow), which the Nexon does not have. The Pure+ PS adds a rear wiper but no rear defogger, so our combined rear defogger and wiper feature is not credited until Creative+ PS. The iCNG brochure predates the Pure+ PS, so that CNG variant takes the petrol trim's equipment less cruise control. Auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, roof rails and the air purifier are not in our registry. Tata publishes no certified efficiency for any of this car's powertrains, so none stores one. The Camo, Dark and Red Dark appearance editions are not modelled. Tata's persona walk lists roof rails once, under Smart+ S, and no trim above repeats them. Crediting them there alone would have made the price-adjacent Smart+ S to Pure+ rung read as losing roof rails, which the brochure does not say, so they are not credited on any Nexon. The walk says "IRVM" without calling it anti-glare, so the day/night mirror is not credited below the auto-dimming unit on the Fearless+ PS. Tata publishes no certified fuel-efficiency figure for this car, and that is now a confirmed absence rather than a gap. Three sources checked 29 Sept 2026: Tata's own model page has zero hits for kmpl, km/kg, mileage or efficiency; the May 2026 ICE brochure's TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION table runs dimensions, engine, fuel, power, torque, suspension and brakes with no efficiency row; and the iCNG brochure, which is image-only and had to be rendered, gives CNG capacity and cylinder count but likewise no efficiency. So none is stored for the automatics, the iCNG or the diesel. WIRELESS ANDROID AUTO (9 Oct 2026): Tata's own persona walk (nexon-brochure-may.pdf, May 2026) adds 'Wireless Android Auto & Apple Car Play' on Pure+, 'additional over Smart+', inherited by every persona above; Smart+ has the '17.78 cm HARMAN Touchscreen with AA/ACP', not wireless. One consequence worth knowing: Tata now prices the Pure+ CNG and the Pure+ S CNG identically, at Rs 9,99,990, so the sunroof the Pure+ S adds costs nothing extra on the CNG. SMART CNG (Rs 8,34,990, Tata's own price list) was added on 12 Oct 2026. Its equipment is the Smart petrol's under the brochure's own CNG footnote — cruise control, multi-drive modes and the subwoofer are 'not available in CNG' — which is exactly the difference our data already shows on every other Nexon trim sold as both. Engine figures are the 1.2 Turbo iCNG's, as on the other CNG versions.
