What it costs to run
Fuel only — change any figure to your ownPrices are Delhi's, read 2026-11-04. Fuel duty is set per state, so they are the state's figure rather than Delhi's.
| Variant | km/l | Fuel, a year |
|---|---|---|
| HTE(O) 1.5 Petrol MT | ₹79,885 | |
| HTE(O) 1.5 Turbo Petrol MT | ₹76,830 | |
| HTE(O) 1.5 Diesel MT | ₹58,465 |
The diesel costs ₹2,02,000 more and saves ₹21,420 a year on fuel at these numbers, so it pays that back at about 1,13,165 km.
Fuel only. It does not price servicing, insurance, tyres or what the Kia Carens Clavis is worth when you sell it — a diesel usually costs more to maintain, and we publish no figure for that rather than estimate one.

Kia Carens Clavis powertrains: common questions
- How many powertrains is the Kia Carens Clavis sold with?
- 7: 1.5 · Petrol manual, CNG manual, 1.5 Turbo · Petrol manual, Diesel manual, Petrol DCT, Diesel automatic, Petrol iMT. The cheapest way into the range is the HTE 1.5 Petrol MT at ₹11,38,900 ex-showroom, and the dearest entry point is the HTX+ 1.5 Turbo Petrol iMT at ₹19,32,900.
- On the Kia Carens Clavis, does changing powertrain change the equipment?
- Yes on the HTE. Going from the HTE 1.5 Petrol MT to the HTE 1.5 CNG MT adds Full Wheel Covers and drops 15-Inch Alloy Wheels, which we value at ₹18,050 against a price gap of ₹99,900.
- What mileage does each Kia Carens Clavis powertrain claim?
- 1.5 · Petrol manual: 15.34 kmpl; 1.5 Turbo · Petrol manual: 15.95 kmpl; Diesel manual: 19.54 kmpl; Petrol DCT: 16.66 kmpl; Diesel automatic: 17.5 kmpl; Petrol iMT: 15.95 kmpl. These are the manufacturer's certified figures, not our own, and CNG is certified per kilogram rather than per litre — the two numbers are not comparable directly.
- Does CarMaths say when the Kia Carens Clavis's CNG pays for itself?
- Not yet. That answer needs a CNG price we can stand behind in your city, and the CNG figures available to us fail their own consistency check — they swing by twelve rupees between two cities in one state, and in one city they read above petrol. This page gives the price gap and the certified efficiency and leaves the division to you, rather than printing a payback distance that would be wrong.
We do not tell you when CNG pays for itself
The useful answer is a distance — drive this far and the cheaper fuel has repaid the premium. For diesel against petrol we do work it out, in the panel above: it holds this state's pump prices, and where we have a certified efficiency for both sides of the same trim it gives you the premium, the yearly saving and the kilometres at which one repays the other. Change any figure to your own.
CNG is the one we withhold, and it is a sourcing problem rather than an arithmetic one: the CNG prices we could find do not survive their own consistency check — they swing by twelve rupees between two cities in one state, and in one city they read above petrol. A payback distance built on those would be a wrong answer rather than a missing one.
Where a row above reads “—”, the manufacturer publishes no certified efficiency for that powertrain and we store none rather than borrow another's. Type the figure you actually get and the arithmetic follows it.
Everything on this page is the same arithmetic used everywhere else on this site: equipment priced in rupees, against the price difference. What it cannot price is the powertrain itself — a gearbox, a fuel system, running cost, resale or refuelling convenience.
What this car's data leaves out
Left out: the six-seat versions, the X-Line appearance edition, and any variant with no published price. The CNG is held on the two trims Kia sells it on, with no efficiency figure because nobody publishes one.
Data notes — where these figures come from
1.5 petrol manual, 1.5 turbo-petrol manual, iMT and DCT, and 1.5 diesel manual and automatic, across every trim from HTE to GTX+ that has a published price. Kia's brochure lists each trim as additions over another, and qualifies several by powertrain: the 15-inch alloy wheels are on the 1.5 petrol only (turbo and diesel HTE(O) and HTE(EX) run styled steel), the electric parking brake is 'DCT/AT' only, the HTK+ sunroof is not offered on the diesel automatic, from HTK+(O) the turbo gets a panoramic sunroof where the diesel keeps a single-pane one, and paddle shifters are 'DCT' only, on HTX+ and GTX+. GTX is listed as additions over HTX, not HTX(O), so it is not credited with the HTX(O)'s Bose audio. Rebuilding from the brochure corrected what we held: the connected tail lamps and the smart key arrive at HTK+, not HTE and HTE(O), and the diesel HTE(O) and HTE(EX) have no alloy wheels. The HTX+ four-way powered driver seat is not credited as our eight-way seat, and drive modes are not credited because our feature means drive modes together with terrain traction modes. Kia's matrix also lists a turbo manual on HTK+ and HTX, an iMT on HTX and a diesel on HTE, and its website now lists a CNG, but no price is published for any of those, so they are not modelled; nor are the six-seat versions or the X-Line. Kia's brochure gives the diesel an R16 styled steel wheel with a full cover and the 1.5 petrol an R15 alloy, and brings alloys to everything at HTK+ (O). Every Clavis variant that holds no alloy is therefore credited with a wheel cover. Downhill brake control is in the Robust 18 Hi package standard on all variants. The walk lists no manual day/night mirror below the auto-dimming unit at HTX, so none is credited. The CNG is priced at last: HTE 1.5 CNG at ₹12,38,800 and HTE(O) 1.5 CNG at ₹13,34,800. Both are still left out, because the price was never the missing half: Kia's Carens Clavis brochure is image-only and its current edition does not mention CNG at all, so there is no equipment column to read. Borrowing the petrol HTE's list would be inventing a specification. Add them when Kia publishes a CNG column or its compare-trims page carries one. The factory-fitted CNG arrived on 2 Oct 2026 and is now held on the two trims Kia offers it on, HTE and HTE(O). Kia's compare-trims page qualifies exactly five rows by fuel and they are the only differences it states: the CNG runs R16 styled steel wheels with a full size wheel cover where the 1.5 petrol has R15 alloys, which is the one difference our registry prices; it adds a fire extinguisher and a fuel change switch and loses the luggage board, none of which the registry covers; and ISG is marked 'Except G1.5 CNG'. Everything else on those two trims is identical to the petrol by Kia's own matrix, so that is what is stored. No certified efficiency is published for the CNG, so none is stored rather than lending it the petrol's. PRICE CHECK 6 Oct 2026 against Kia's own published prices: 17 of 23 matched, HTK+ 1.5 diesel AT rose 12,000, and three figures were stored rounded because Kia returns float dust. WIRELESS ANDROID AUTO (9 Oct 2026): Kia's compare-trims page marks 'Wireless Phone Projection' on HTE(O), HTE(EX), HTK+ and HTK+(O) — the 8-inch screen; from HTX up the larger screen is not marked wireless. One column the page hides was set aside first; the wireless-charger row then lines up with our data exactly. DROPPED 12 Oct 2026: the HTX(O) A 1.5 turbo DCT (the ADAS-pack version of HTX(O)). Kia's own price list names the code but returns no price. The declared walk now runs HTX(O) DCT -> HTX+ DCT, and the old URL redirects to HTX(O) DCT.
